Patches and lozenges in practice

Can the patch be cut in two?

No
Because nicotine is volatile, it is released unevenly at the cutting point. For instance, when you cut a patch in two, the level of nicotine isn’t necessarily divided in half. The patient is therefore not sure he/she is getting the sufficient nicotine dose. In other words, patches are not divisible and their cutting does not ensure release of the effective dosage.

Can I swim with a patch?

Yes
If you don’t stay for too long in the water. However, to make sure the patch does not come off, a little trick is to stick the patch on your buttock so that it remains protected by your swimsuit. If this does not work, use a plaster to protect your patch from water.

Where can I stick the patch?

To any non-hairy body part and away from sweat to guarantee as much adherence as possible (arms, shoulder blades, buttocks...).

Skin redness around the patch: what to do?

Allergies to adhesive substances are very unusual. In most cases, it is in fact a local reaction to nicotine. Remember to switch patch locations, or consult your doctor so that he/she prescribes a topical treatment.
In the case of allergic reactions, consult your doctor.
